Clean Elections, Arizona’s nonpartisan election agency, will be on the ground and online this month during Voter Registration Month.

Voter Registration Month, designated by the National Association of Secretaries of State in 2002, was developed to encourage voter participation and increase awareness of state requirements and deadlines for voting. September 19 is National Voter Registration Day.

“Clean Elections has been a long-time advocate for Arizona voters and consistently encourages participation in the electoral process,” said Avery D. Xola, Voter Education Manager. “Our goal is to meet voters where they are and provide information on the tools available to them and where to get straight-to-the point answers.”

Key Dates:

September 16 – Clean Elections will appear at the Tempe Library in conjunction with the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office for a discussion covering civil discourse and how to get involved in elections.

September 19 – On National Voter Registration Day, Clean Elections staff will be available at Arizona State University’s Downtown Phoenix campus in partnership with the Pastor Center for Politics and Public Service and with the Phoenix Indian Center at Scottsdale Community College. A Clean Elections online event is also planned where voters can submit their voter registration and election questions and get answers in real time. Details will be finalized in the coming weeks.

Throughout September – Educators have access to a line up of elected officials and community leaders sharing their civic biography and/or reading an inspiring story in the Clean Elections Civic Storytelling Series to celebrate civics in the classroom. Educators can also download the Clean Elections Civic Curriculum for ready-to-implement civic education modules that meet state standards.

“The coming year will see the Presidential Preference Election, the state primary and general elections, and will decide offices from President and U.S. Senator to Corporation Commission and city council seats,” said Voter Education Director Gina Roberts. “Clean Elections seek to provide information to every voter on how to participate in these important decisions.”
